The AMP University Challenge is your chance to experience first-hand the reality and rewards of a potential career in financial advice. Open to individuals or teams, this is a unique opportunity to combine your technical knowledge with your communication skills.

The purpose of the Challenge is to showcase how exciting and fulfilling the financial planning industry can be, and to help you experience first-hand what it takes to be successful as a financial planner. The Challenge can help you decide if it's the right career for you.


Who can participate

The Challenge is a competition open to all university students currently studying either part time or full time at an Australian university or an equivalent tertiary institution, except for those that are representatives of a financial services entity.


How it works

A case study scenario will be sent to you as soon as you register and you are tasked with creating a discussion paper in response, outlining your recommended strategies for the client.

You'll have until Monday 26 September to submit your paper.

A panel of practising financial planners and industry representatives then judges the papers and those who submitted the top five entries will be invited to participate in Finals Day, to be held at AMP's Circular Quay office in Sydney on Friday 28 October. (Finalists who live more than 200km away will be flown to Sydney with one night's accommodation included.)

Finals Day will involve:

  • networking with AMP business leaders, industry professionals, practising financial planners, and leading academics
  • a professional development workshop (providing feedback on your client engagement and presentation skills)
  • a fun and interactive technical quiz
  • lunch with the judges and coaches
  • a presentation of your team's strategic recommendations to a (simulated) client
  • a cocktail function in the evening overlooking Sydney Harbour, where the winners of the Challenge will be announced.


Rewards

In addition to putting your skills to the test, a range of great prizes is on offer, including:

  • Prize money of up to $5,000 for the winning individual or team
  • A book pack including an Australian Master Financial Planning Guide
  • Membership of the Financial Planning Association (FPA)
  • Subscriptions to IFA Magazine, Money Management and Professional Planner
  • Registration to attend the 2017 AMP Advice Summit and the 2016 FPA Professionals Congress
