In 2016, Vision Australia will award Further Education Bursaries to a select number of students who are blind or have low vision. The bursaries provide for adaptive technology to help ensure that these students can fully participate and succeed in their chosen studies.


Eligibility criteria

Applicants must:

  • be, or become, clients of Vision Australia
  • have a current (within the last 12 months) eye report on file with Vision Australia
  • be Australian citizens or permanent residents
  • be living in, or moving to Victoria, the ACT, New South Wales, Queensland, the Northern Territory or Tasmania
  • be enrolling to study at an institution in Victoria, the ACT, New South Wales, Queensland, the Northern Territory or Tasmania
  • be enrolling to study in at least Certificate IV or higher accredited courses, including undergraduate and postgraduate degrees (not a foundation or enabling course), at the start of 2016, or be already enrolled in such a course. (Note that preference may be given to those in the early stages of a course.)

(The Victorian bursary recipient selected by Vision Australia's committee to have best met the these criteria will, in addition to the bursary, receive the Fairhall Memorial Scholarship of $150.)


Selection criteria

The bursary committee will take a number of criteria into consideration when making their selections, including applicants':

  • future goals
  • potential for success in their chosen course(s)
  • extra-curricular activities
  • demonstrated need for (adaptive technology) equipment

How to apply

Step 1: Phone Vision Australia's Vocational Consultant, Belinda Wilson, on (03) 8378 1223. Belinda will check your eligibility and arrange an Adaptive Technology Bursary Assessment, which is a required part of the application process.

Step 2: Submit your application form and accompanying documentation as outlined in the linked "information document" available on the Vision Australia Further Education Bursary webpage.
